FEBRUARY 2019 REFLECTIONS

A marvelous mind has no defense against a hard heart – – – especially when both are encapsulated in the same body.

——————————————————————————-

Nature seeks perfection by patient attention to small things.  A marvelous life is no different.  Why enter the mindless marathon for wealth, power, possessions, and fame?

——————————————————————————-

There is no limitation on our capacity for hope, or for despair.  There is no limitation on our capacity for generosity, or for greed.  There is none on our capacity for violence or for beneficence;  joy or sorrow; love or hate.  A livable life in a just, peaceful society cannot be had by competition or confrontation between individuals, institutions, organizations, or nation states.   It will come when all people decide to trust, use, and depend upon their constructive, rather than destructive, capacities .

——————————————————————————-

We fill our minds with the rubble of the past, vainly hoping that the future will prove predictable by repeating what it once did, or that we might recreate something as it once was.  We might as well try to avoid death by shrinking back through the womb.

——————————————————————————

Separability, measurement, cause and effect, command and control may well be the immutable fact of our present existence, but life is more than existence.  Consciousness and conscience are creative forces in the universe.  When we cooperatively  engage in the creative act of imagining a more harmonious, beneficent  future, that future will be more willing to come into being than we now imagine..

——————————————————————————-

We are so addicted to science, technology, and material possessions that we are  unable to evolve into fit companions for nature, for ourselves, and for all other forms of life.  Small wonder we are evolution’s most destructive creatures.  No wonder we are tearing our world apart.  No wonder we are savaging one another. We are, indeed, fools worshiping our tools.

——————————————————————————

The world crawls with greedy ambitious men of narrow mind, blind eye, and brutal hand who would break the world apart for profit and power.  This we call liberty?  This we call progress?  This we call prosperity?  This we call just?  This we call democracy?  Only those with a heart turned stone would do so.

——————————————————————————-

Only an unimaginative man would ever think that mechanistic, command-and-control organizations could ever create  a free, enduring, equitable, peaceful  society.  Only a greedy man would create them.  Only an arrogant man would run them.  Only a cruel man would perpetuate them.

——————————————————————————

Man has turned his mechanistic, industrial age, command and control concepts of organizations into cages with internal wheels on which we run like captive squirrels, never realizing that the wheel runs ever faster as a result of out frantic efforts.  We must escape the cages and develop new concepts of societal organization within which we can equitably,  harmoniously co-evolve with one another, with nature, and with all other living things.

—————————————————————————————

Everything we say, write or do belongs to the world, and to the ages.  Others may take meaning from us we never meant or intended.  We can do  nor more than chose our words and deeds with all the  integrity, beauty and wisdom we possess, and trust  they will have a constructive affect.
